improvised cooperation - anton alvarez

I was lucky to catch a glimpse of this workshop in action at boisbuchet this summer.

anton alvarez led his group in an experimental cooperative design process, with a seat being the end product. participants were assigned a material combination to start each seat, then the seat was passed along to the next person, with the next set of materials & so forth. by the end, the seat passed through 6 or 7 hands & 6 or 7 different material combinations. I loved seeing how freeing & playful this experiment (blind-folded splatter painting!) was for the group & the results were awesome.

it reminded me to play more & to experiment with design, letting go of the final idea & allowing the process to take over.
